Why this name

The industry benchmark metric for software delivery excellence.

The C-suite engineering metric

"Engineering velocity" is the core KPI CTOs and VPs of Engineering optimize every quarter — the category LinearB, Jellyfish, Faros AI, and Swarmia compete in. "Sprint velocity" is Agile's foundational metric for delivery rate. This domain is the literal home of that conversation.

.dev means developer, by design

Run by Google's registry and engineered exclusively for software teams. Every .dev site is HTTPS-only, enforced at the browser level with HSTS preloaded — instant security the moment it's live.

The market

Category-defining developer words trade at seven figures.

In developer tooling and infrastructure, single-word names command 7-figure valuations — Bot.ai at $1.2M, Fin.ai at $1M, and Neural.ai reported at $1.75M. On .dev itself, category-defining single words are held privately, their terms undisclosed. velocity.dev is that rare tier: the literal metric every engineering team benchmarks, priced where the category trades today.

How it works

Three steps to your first email.

01

Choose your path

Buy outright, lease-to-own, or lease monthly. Compare the three structures in the table below; full terms and mechanics live in the FAQ.

02

Send one email

Write to [email protected], name your path and your timeline. A real person replies within 24 hours — no forms, no calls, no brokers.

03

Secure it through escrow

A neutral third party holds funds and confirms the transfer. You control the name and run traffic the same day — or at final payoff for lease-to-own.

FAQ

Everything else you'd want to ask.

Is $1,200,000 a real price or a starting point?
It's the asking price for outright purchase. Every premium domain has a negotiation band, and serious funded offers are welcome — but the name won't move for a discount. Lease-to-own (12, 24, 36 or 48 months) and the $12,000/mo lease are available so strong teams can secure it without a $1.2M write-off.
How is the transfer secured?
Payment is held by a licensed escrow service (Escrow.com or Sedo) or handled by the selling marketplace. The domain doesn't leave the seller's account until funds clear; funds aren't released until you control the name. For lease-to-own, the domain is escrowed on a scheduled transfer so ownership lands in your account the moment the final payment clears.
Are you a broker? Are there any middleman fees?
No. You deal directly with the owner and registrant of the domain — no brokers, no marketplaces, no middlemen, and no commissions or listing fees on either side. The only third party in the transaction is neutral escrow, which safeguards funds and the transfer; standard escrow fees, if any, are disclosed up front.
What are the lease-to-own mechanics, exactly?
Choose a fixed term — 12, 24, 36 or 48 months. At the default 36 months, that's $33,333/mo × 36 = $1,200,000. Each payment reduces the balance toward zero, and you can buy out at any time for the remaining balance — no penalty, no accrued interest. The domain is fully under your control and usable from month one; the registry transfer is executed automatically at final payoff via escrow.
What's the grace period, and what happens if I miss a payment?
Every payment under both lease-to-own and lease monthly includes a 15-day grace period from the due date. Cure within that window and the schedule continues unchanged — no penalty, no interest added.

Lease-to-own: if a payment isn't cured within the 15-day grace period, the agreement terminates. Payments already made are treated as rent for the period of use and do not vest any ownership interest — the build-toward-ownership schedule ends and no ownership share accrues. The domain remains with the seller.

Lease monthly: if a payment isn't cured within the 15-day grace period, the lease is terminated. You must stop using the domain and cooperate with its return to the seller's control at the registrar. Payments made cover the period actually used, which may include the grace period per the agreement.
Can I lease for a short term just to test?
Yes — it's a simple month-to-month lease. A lease-monthly plan at a fixed $12,000/mo gives you full commercial use with no ownership transfer and no obligation to buy. You can cancel any time with 30 days' notice. In the unlikely event the owner accepts a full-price offer, the lease can be ended with 30 days' notice to allow the sale — you'll always have time to transition. If you decide to purchase, you can buy out anytime at the full $1,200,000 asking price — the same price as an outright purchase, no discount and no penalty for having leased.
Why is velocity.dev priced at seven figures?
Because it's the category-defining single word for developer speed on Google's .dev extension. Comparable single words on developer-native extensions have closed at $1.2M (Bot.ai) and are reported at $1.75M (Neural.ai). velocity.dev isn't an invented label; it is the exact term teams already use to measure software engineering performance. That is what the enterprise market pays for.
Where does your comparable sales data come from?
A mix of publicly reported sales tracked by NameBio, DNJournal and Escrow.com, marketplace announcements from Sedo, Atom and Top.Domains, and close same-extension names whose terms are held privately. Where a figure isn't public we say so — the undisclosed entries on the market ticker are peers of velocity.dev that trade off-market. As with any domain deal, buyers should do their own diligence.
Who is the seller, and is the domain owned outright?
A private registrant, verified and in full control of velocity.dev with no encumbrances or disputes. Proof of ownership and registrar-level transfer verification are provided before any funds move.
Can I inspect the domain before offering?
Absolutely. Ask for registrar verification details, current DNS status and history. Serious inquiries get full technical diligence within 24 hours.
